Proclamation Event on Sunday 11 September

Ashfield District Council Leaders, invited guests, Councillors, staff and residents attended a Proclamation event outside the Council Offices in Kirkby on Sunday 11 September as Chairman of the Council, Councillor David Walters, read the Proclamation of the Accession of the new monarch, King Charles III.

Councillor David Walters, the Chairman of Ashfield District Council, said at the ceremony:

"Our sadness at this time is shared by people across the globe as we remember with affection and gratitude the lifetime of service given by our longest-reigning monarch. But the basis on which our monarchy is built has ensured that through the centuries the crown has passed in its unbroken line of succession."

The Council offices will remain open every day (except closed Sunday 18th) until 5.00pm on Tuesday 20 September for residents sign the book of condolence in the reception area and you are welcome to lay flowers at the front of the building.

We have been made aware that there are also books of condolence at St Mary’s Church in Hucknall and St Mary’s Church in Sutton. If residents are aware of further books of condolence in the District please share this information with us. There is a national online book of condolence at www.royal.uk

We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support during these difficult times.
