Self build and custom monitoring

The self build and custom housebuilding monitoring period runs from 31 October to 30 October each year.

The Government’s planning practice guidance on self build and custom housebuilding (paragraph 012) encourages local authorities to publish an annual monitoring report setting out headline data on the demand for self-build and custom housebuilding revealed by their register.

The monitoring reports set out in broad terms the nature of demand according to the register. It also identifies permissions that have been granted (Appendix A) that could potentially contribute to meeting that demand.

The register helps us monitor the demand for self-build and custom housebuilding, but does not guarantee that a suitable plot will be identified or will become available.

Self build and Custom Housebuilding Monitoring Reports for each respective monitoring period can be found in the related documents section of this web page.

If you would like to investigate any of the approved planning applications further, a search on the planning portal using the reference number (found in Appendix A of the monitoring reports) can be done.

An interactive map (including guidance notes on using the map) is also available which can also be used to check the planning history of an address
