Home Office project funding to help prevention of radicalisation in Sutton

Sutton-in-Ashfield was one of only two places across the whole of Nottinghamshire to be successful for £20,000 Home Office project work to help prevent radicalisation.

Ashfield District Council worked with key partners to secure the funding including Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottinghamshire Police.

Ashfield Community Safety Partnership and Nottinghamshire’s Prevent leads will be using the funding to help deliver services that tackle the causes of radicalisation. The work will build critical thinking and personal resilience with young people in the area as well as targeted intervention work with residents who are susceptible to being radicalised towards violent extremism.

The Prevent Programme part of the Government’s Counter Terrorism Strategy, is designed to safeguard people at risk of being drawn into supporting terrorism, through tailored interventions designed to address the personal and social factors which can make people vulnerable to radicalisation.

‘The funding has been well received by Ashfield District Council and will be used to directly support those who are at risk of or susceptible to radicalisation through a number of targeted interventions consisting of educational programmes, safety planning and diversionary activities. We are working closely with Nottinghamshire Police and wider partner agencies to tackle criminality and provide support to vulnerable groups across our district and this funding will further support this commitment.’
